Along the promenade in front of the Zalakaros Spa, the evergreen tree line has been a wonderful sight for decades.
In recent years, there has been a steady drying of pine trees and tulips.
The company has asked an expert to assess the condition of the trees.
According to the expert opinion, due to the extreme weather conditions (drought, heat) in the past period, the silver fir trees have thinned, withered and their branches have been constantly breaking off. Their crowns have withered, indicating the end of their life cycle and the beginning of an irreversible ageing process.
The tulips have changed colour and there is heavy leaf drop.
In addition, dense and inappropriate planting has also led to the current state of the building, causing moss to grow on the roof structure.
The guttering has been blocked on several occasions due to tree leaves falling, which has resulted in regular leaking on the west side of the building. The root system of the ageing trees is dense and spreading, causing serious damage to the underlying utility network. Several times a year, the previously mentioned part of the building has experienced blockages of such magnitude that faecal matter has backflowed into the pipe system.
On the basis of these facts and the expert opinion, the company's management decided to cut down the trees.
The professional cutting work started yesterday, and today the clearing process is underway and the milling of the stumps will be completed.
The branches of the evergreen plants have been donated by the company to decorate the Karos Wreath, a worthy addition to the Advent wreath of our beloved city, while the rest will be used to heat the foil tents in Karos Park, where the tubers of the canna flowers, considered the symbol of the city, will survive the winter.
In the future, Japanese cherry trees will blossom in the area of the alley, in harmony with the unparalleled site of the Thermal Road, in a spirit of harmony and unity.
