Renewal of the health centre

The spa centre, inaugurated in 1992, is being renovated. This was announced by László Cziráki, CEO of Gránit Gyógyfürdő Zrt. at a press conference held on site.

The full reconstruction will start on 1 October, and following the public procurement procedure, the construction works will be carried out by Szabadics Zrt. The renovation will include a new roof, new windows and doors, a new reception area, new tiling throughout the building, new building services and bathrooms, and a new fence.

The CEO also announced that it was a worthy birthday present (the spa opened 51 years ago on 5 September) that Zalakaros Spa came second in the Bath of the Year poll, having „held its own” in fourth place. It is no secret, he pointed out, that the aim is to achieve the EuropeSpa Med five-star rating of the European Spa Association (ESPA) by the end of next year.

Mayor Ferenc Novák, in addition to citing the significant developments and anniversaries of the spa, said that last year the Zalakaros spa complex had more than 654 thousand visitors, and this year there has been a 10 percent increase so far, while the city's tourism tax revenues have increased by 15 percent. The latter amounted to HUF 169 million up to August this year, exceeding the annual revenue of three years ago.

At the same time, he stressed that not only the spa, but also the city will develop, as the HUF 1 billion health resort development project will soon be launched, the Civil House will be expanded, solar collector investments will be launched, bicycle paths will be built, and money will be spent on improving the roads in the city centre.

While the majority of the city's investments are financed by tenders, the spa is financing the renovation of the spa centre from its own resources, at a net cost of HUF 642 million. The renovation will be completed next year.
